Spent the week in Yountville, and I must say House of Prime Rib was a favorite. Wish I had room for dessert, but I was so perfectly full and comfortable I had to pass...
A bit sweet but enough for one to share with the entire table. Decor, Vibe – House of Prime Rib is a classic steakhouse feel with dark wood, glass paneling, large bar and lounge, and several dining areas. We came midweek and the place was still packed. A cross-section of locals and tourists of all ages and races. Clearly a lot of people love this place. Not a quite romantic dining establishment.

Our waiter pushes over a cart with a huge silver bowl that sits atop a bed of ice. Inside are iceberg lettuce, matchsticks of purple beets, bits of hard boiled egg, and a creamy 1,000 Islands dressing. Plus House of Prime Rib seasoned salt, which our waiter plucks from our table before sprinkling generously on top.
Then he spins the salad, tossing all the while. It’s a weird combination, but delicious enough that we finish every bite. Apple Crisp ($10.50) is steakhouse size. Piping hot, topped with vanilla ice cream.

Best prime rib! The sides are delicious as well. Loved it can't wait to go back.
The Yorkshire pudding arrives in a cast iron pan before it’s cut into fours and added to our plates. It has a golden brown crust and fluffy insides that are perfect for soaking up the au jus, which is both on the meat and in a little silver gravy boat. Overlooking the iconic San Francisco Bay, House of Prime Rib stands as a gourmet symbol of the city. This restaurant radiates a classic style, merging old school elegance with a modern approach to dining.
In addition to the main attraction, the establishment offers a great variety of sumptuous sides. HOPR is the sort of over-the-top calorie splurge you tend to have once a year, and I—like Keanu—especially love this restaurant during the holiday season. The shiny red and gold ornaments. The pine green wreaths everywhere. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but the dining room during December at HOPR sure makes me wish I did.
We get a corner booth in the back, lined with red leather seats and framed with magnums of wine. Our cocktails arrive and are shaken table-side, then poured in chilled martini glasses. Each drink is about two-and-a-half pours, so our shakers stay on the table, allowing us to have more as needed. Then comes a warm, fresh loaf of sourdough bread with salted butter. There’s a huge amount of food after this, but a bite (or five) is definitely a must. It is all about the beef, in different sizes from the small City cut to the extra large Henry VIII.

Lots of noise, carts and waiters all over. It’s no secret that if you’re somehow still hungry, you can order seconds, and chefs will carve you off an additional small slice of meat. After discovering this, I would always ask for a slice of the end cut, which is a salty, crispy, well-done piece from the end of the rib. Every single time, dining at the House of Prime Rib, the iconic meat mecca on Van Ness Avenue, is such a joy.

Dr. Hallie Thomas (Teri Reeves) had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Casey for eight years when the show started, and the couple's engagement was chronicled in Season 1 of Chicago Fire. Before either of them could get to their wedding day, Hallie discovered the clinic she worked within was involved in a corrupt drug ring. Darden was a best friend to firefighters Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), both of whom shouldered some blame for the firefighter's death. It’s a devastatingly powerful scene, and a rare one given how infrequently Severide and Violet have one-on-one scenes. It’s both a beacon of hope for the future and a tip of the cap to an old character who met a tragic end.
Taylor Kinney
In Chicago Fire Season 9 and Season 10, we saw Casey leave Firehouse 51 to help take care of the two sons Darden left behind following his tragic death. Anna Turner was briefly Kelly Severide's girlfriend, who he met by donating his bone marrow to her. She was suffering from leukemia, which appeared to be improving following Severide's donation; however, she ended up succumbing to her illness. I don’t think he is going to have a hand in the relationship. I think Severide’s character is quite strong-willed, that even if his dad [Williams] said “She’s horrible, don’t date her! ” I don’t think he would listen to be honest [laughs].
Kelly's reaction to Anna's death is an emotional rollercoaster
Anna Turner (Charlotte Sullivan) was Severide's girlfriend in Season 5 of Chicago Fire. The bone marrow donation helped Anna initially, and the chemistry between her and Severide led them to develop a romantic relationship. The strength of their romance put them at No. 13 in Looper’s ranking of “Chicago Fire” relationships, and Anna’s passing remains one of the One Chicago world’s best-remembered deaths.

In “Carry Me,” Episode 20, Anna’s deteriorating health worsens. She dies, and Kelly barely makes it in time to say goodbye, providing the show with one of Kelly’s most heartbreaking moments on the show. It was a marked contrast to many of the show’s other deaths, which often occurred suddenly and unexpectedly, but was no less sad for its inevitability. He seeks her out and learns that her leukemia has become terminal — she'd tried to leave him before the disease devastated her. In "Carry Me," Episode 20, Anna's deteriorating health worsens. She was designed to showcase a rebellious and outlier strength, not a forgettable side role, but an eye-catching ballsy Bettie Page toughie lil’ sister to the seemingly conservative Dr. Harris. On Lifetime’s provocative Mary Kills People, the touchy subject of euthanasia is wrapped in a dramedy that sees a doctor moonlight as a mercy killer. He added how he “saw Anna wherever [he] went to for the longest time” but did acknowledge Crew 51’s help, stating that if he was to drift, “they’d hold on tight”. In the following season, he did start putting himself out there again and began dating Kidd which resulted in their marriage in series 10. Unfortunately, just as they were growing even closer, Anna’s condition worsened and in the episode Carry Their Legacy, Severide raced her to hospital for chemotherapy. Severide and Anna got to know each other even better after the operation and started dating, with her even moving to Chicago to be closer to her boyfriend.
While we’re pretty certain we know how exactly things will end — this is a Hallmark movie we’re talking about after all and there’s nothing wrong with comfortable, predictability! — don’t expect Kayla and Justin to get their happily ever after without a little bit of conflict. Taylor is a phenomenal actor, I love working with him, he is a really interesting artist. They’re just beautiful people, the crew and the actors, they’re so embracing of me. I felt like I had been there since the pilot. My only problem, I had to play a certain secret at that table with him.
‘Chicago Fire’: Kelly Severide Gives a Dose of the L Word to Ailing Anna (VIDEO)
Because everything else is out of their hands. But playing Marilyn…I got a lot of flack for that. So it doesn’t really matter truly what you look like, because it’s such a contrived makeup that it’s honestly like a paint-by-numbers type of thing. The whole team of people who put me together for that…they are just the most insanely talented people. Nicole, we learn from Charlotte in our interview below, was a well-constructed look.
She played Marilyn Monroe in The Kennedys
He was also Kelly Severide's semi-estranged father and close friends with Chief Boden. Chicago Fire fans met Danny in Season 4, Episode 1 ("Let It Burn") after he visited Jimmy to tease him about his firefighter candidacy and his choice of Firehouse 51. Boden Sr.'s death was cataclysmic for Firehouse 51's typically fearless commander, who faced first-time fatherhood suddenly fatherless. She was among the crew of Firehouse 51 emergency personnel responding to a huge apartment fire in Season 2, Episode 22 ("Real Never Waits"). The episode ended on a cliff-hanger as Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) watched in horror as an explosion went off and the roof collapsed with Firehouse 51 still inside. In the Season 3 premiere ("Always"), Chicago Fire fans were heartbroken to learn that roof collapse caused a beam to fall and strike Shay in the head, killing her instantly.

Brett was nearly tasked with caring for her newborn half-sister, but helped Scott accept his role instead. Boden soon learned that his father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and had a slim hope of finding a successful treatment plan. Boden did everything in his power to convince his father to fight cancer proactively, but Boden Sr. wished to live his life rather than risk dying from intense chemotherapy. Fans everywhere know that no one’s safe when they hang out with the folks at Firehouse 51. I felt like I was playing cops-and-robbers with my friends, all of whom I’ve stayed in touch with. I play Nicole, the younger sister of the lead character, Dr. Mary Harris (Caroline Dhavernas).
Their unlikely meet-cute sparks a 10-episode romance between Turner and Severide that ends with her succumbing to her illness. Sullivan's resume, however, extends far beyond the Windy City limits. If you have a soft spot for Canadian television or had the pleasure of growing up in the '90s, here's why you might recognize Sullivan. Anna is a leukemia patient who meets Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) after he donates bone marrow to her. Kelly is screened as a favor to his doctor friend Jeff Clarke (Jeff Hephner) but ends up having to put off the transplant after a work injury. After the surgery, Anna’s health improves somewhat.
Chief Boden re-connected with his father after the birth of his own son, Terrence, as part of a compelling four-episode arc that began with in Season 3, Episode 11 ("Let Him Die"). Severide and Dawson were particularly traumatized by Shay's gut-wrenching death, but it eventually led Severide to gain interest in Arson Investigation. For those unaware, Anna first appeared in the drama series during Season 5. The pediatric nurse had leukemia, but luckily she seemed to recover once Severide saved her life by donating bone marrow. Though Darden died in Chicago Fire's debut episode, the impact of his passing created a ripple effect that's still felt many seasons later.
He also brings up Anna when Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) is in deep mourning for Evan Hawkins (Jack Nicholas) after his sudden, heartbreaking death in Season 11. After Anna Turner's passing, Kelly Severide moves on with Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), eventually marrying her. In Season 6's "Looking for a Lifeline," Kelly travels to Springfield to visit the Anna Turner Wing, obviously named in her memory.
Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide in the “Carry Me” episode of Chicago Fire. “[Taylor’s] so down-to-earth and lovely and normal, and he plays the role so well,” says Charlotte Sullivan, who portrayed Severide’s girlfriend Anna. But it's all for naught, as Anna takes a sudden turn for the worse.
This is the first time we've had a scene with Severide and Violet alone, and it was a pairing the fans didn't know they needed. As expected, Episode 4 of "Chicago Fire" Season 11 was full of emotion. The members of Firehouse 51 (and the viewers who watch them) are still reeling from the death of Evan Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas). Violet (Hanako Greensmith) took his tragic passing the worst, understandably, and fans followed her grief journey throughout the episode. Greensmith absolutely nailed her performance in Episode 3 and kept the same energy going into Episode 4.

The line's two newest vessels, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian VIva, have 72-cabin solo complexes spread over two decks. For would-be Norwegian cruisers, Norwegian Sky's shorter sailings out of Miami serve as a sort of "test the line" opportunity. Their short time frame and low pricing mean you're not out a lot in time or money if you don't love it as much as you hoped.
Stats for 2020-Q4 show NCLH as the world's 4th-largest cruise shipowner by combined fleet's passenger capacity (8,3%), preceded by Carnival (39%), Royal Caribbean (24%) and MSC (11,5%). Passenger shipping operations started with one vessel (cruiseferry/combined cruise ship and car ferry) operating on short and cheap Caribbean roundtrips from the USA. When Ted Arison left NCL in 1972 (to establish CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines), Knut Kloster acquired more ships for NCL's Caribbean operations. As of August 2023[update], Norwegian Cruise Line operates 19 cruise ships, with four on order.

At 169,116 tons and carrying 3,958 passengers, Norwegian Encore is the largest ship in the Norwegian fleet. That means it has the most space for the many over-the-top family fun zones that are at the core of the four Breakaway-Plus vessels — a series of ships that was specifically designed with families in mind. Norwegian designs its ships to appeal to a broad mix of people, in part by offering a wide range of cabin types at varying price points. On a typical sailing, you might find an entry-level cabin for around $100 a night while a high-end suite is five to 15 times that amount.
The new Scarpetta restaurant is similarly designed as a land-based venue, with an interior featuring walnut wood and Calacatta marble. NCL's "Premium All Inclusive" deals were introduced on April 3, 2017, and include all cabin categories. Since September 2017, NCL offers "Premium All-Inclusive Plus" package. The new offer includes 5 additional benefits for passengers booking a selection of port-intensive longer voyages (9 nights or longer) in all worldwide destinations. The additional perks are 250-min internet package, 120-min phone package, US$50 shore excursion credit (per call port), up to GBP 75 hotel credit (in select call ports) and up to GBP 150 flight credit.
Heat up your day or night at Spice H20, our adults-only beach club at the back of the ship. And when all is said and done, enjoy a pamper session at Mandara Spa. If you're looking for a romantic vacation, perhaps you'll want a smaller ship or a cabin in The Haven, which is a hotel-within-a-hotel concept with more personalized service. The Haven is only available on select Norwegian ships, including Encore, Viva and Prima.
Some of Norwegian's accommodations are studios, perfect for solo travelers! With Broadway shows, avant-garde dining and nightlife options, and a focus on "Freestyle Cruising," each ship is filled with all the amenities and activities you could ask for. Some of our favorite features include the Studio Cabins, the cruise line’s partnership with legendary sketch comedy group Second City and the fine French cuisine served at Le Bistro. Norwegian Cruise Line is a wildly popular cruising company that emphasizes “Freestyle Cruising”—meaning light-hearted, carefree vacation fun for you and yours.

(November 19 through December 3, 2023) NCL Prima from PortMiami offers 3x 7-day Western Caribbean voyages to Harvest Caye Belize, Cozumel Mexico, Isla Roatan Honduras. In August 2025, NCL Aqua starts homeporting in NYC (New York USA) offering 5- and 7-day voyages to Bermuda (King's Wharf). In 2023, NCL had its ever-biggest Europe-Meditarranean itinerary program by deploying in the region 10 ships (Breakaway, Dawn, Epic, Gem, Getaway, Jade, Prima, Sun, Star, Viva). Due to the COVID pandemic, NCLH's entire fleet (all vessels of the brands NCL-Norwegian, RSSC-Regent, Oceania) is with an expanded cancellation policy. All bookings on pre-scheduled itineraries (departures March 14, 2020, through April 30, 2021) were given the option to cancel (up to 48 hours prior departure) without penalties.
Italy is famous for its food, and you'll find the very best local cuisine on offer. Once in the Eternal City you can fill your day with museums, churches, archaeological sites, traditional trattorias, artisan shops and, of course, gelato. The Colosseum and the Vatican Museums are Rome's superstar attractions, but there are plenty of quieter gems to explore. For food lovers there are the markets in Campo de' Fiori or the slightly farther flung Testaccio.

Why You Should Take a Mediterranean Cruise in the Winter - AFAR Media
Why You Should Take a Mediterranean Cruise in the Winter.
Among the first places to see is the Colosseum, which was built in the 1st century AD and is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Famous for its incredible scale and detail, this iconic landmark is one of the most enduring emblems of the Roman Empire, having hosted countless gladiatorial battles. To the west of the Colosseum is the Vatican City, which is of course home to St Peter's Square and Basilica, from where the Pope regularly addresses the world. The Sistine Chapel, meanwhile, is known for the frescoes that adorn its interior, the most notable of which can be found on the ceiling and were painted by Michelangelo.

You can walk in the footsteps of emperors, have coffee in Renaissance piazzas and see contemporary art all in one afternoon. Your sightseeing time in Rome begins at the nearby port of Civitavecchia, a seaside town with roots that stretch back to the Etruscan era. Take note of the Forte Michelangelo (both Bramante and Michelangelo had a hand in its design), and the lungomare, a lively stretch along the sea with beach clubs, bars and restaurants. Once awarded the title of the European Capital of Street Food, Messina (Sicily), Italy, is the ideal port of call for foodies cruising the Mediterranean. Packed with restaurants and cafes, this city offers countless chances to enjoy a gourmet meal or grab a quick bite on the go from a local street vendor.
Although Rome might not have been built in one day, you'll certainly be able to see its highlights on our Rome cruises along with the top things to do there in 24 hours. If you enjoy art, you can visit galleries and perhaps purchase an original piece from a local artist. At the city's many boutiques, you can browse souvenirs that capture the Spanish flair of Palma you'll be sure to love. Get cash from an ATM machine that's compatible with your local bank. Local "cambio" shops exchange dollars to euros, though at higher rates than at ATM's.

Be aware the port for Rome, Civitavecchia, is about 1.5 to 2 hours from the city. (There is decent train service.) Make sure to drop a coin in Trevi Fountain, which is said to assure you'll come back again. It's no secret that Rome is home to some of the most historically significant and beautiful sights in Europe. What you may not know is that you can visit Rome and many of the exciting destinations surrounding it when you book a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line out of our Rome (Civitavecchia) port of call. We have several itineraries to choose from, each with perks such as unique excursions and breathtaking views.
The next day, we went on an ancient history quest past ruins and columns, traversing the same streets Julius Caesar strode (and rode) to the Colosseum, where gladiators once battled. Walking on, we were awed by the Pantheon, the well-preserved ancient symbol of Rome and now a great hangout spot. There are also plenty of places to party in the port of Palma (Majorca), with options for nightlife, wine tasting, and more.
You can use credit cards, but dollars are generally not accepted by retailers and restaurants. And for those historic monuments alone, the city is worth a visit. These are just some of the ways you can enjoy yourself when you book a cruise vacation from Rome with Norwegian.
The port itself is located at Civitavecchia, which is about an hour's drive away from the centre of Rome. Before heading into the city, you may want to take a quick look around the port, which is home to the National Archaeological Museum and a 16th-centry fortress built by Michelangelo. However, if time is of the essence then it's best to get straight to it, and from the moment you arrive in Rome you'll be surrounded by amazing sites and attractions.

While Costa attracts a largely European clientele, it's actually part of the Carnival Corporation, and the ship most resembles Carnival Cruise Lines in its design and in its layout. The sister ships are actually built to Panamax specifications, which means they're not only smaller than many of their fleetmates, but they're more flexible, too.

On a typical seven-night cruise from Amsterdam, ports and excursions include Basel, Cologne, Koblenz, the Rhine Gorge, Rudesheim, Mannheim and Strasbourg. There are a lot of variations, of course, with different starting points and stops, which offers cruisers plenty of interesting options. Krems and Durnstein are the last two stops in Austria before you head to Passau, the German “City of Three Rivers”.
You’ll dock at San Basilio, on the Giudecca Canal, an easy walk from Piazza San Marco. You’ll usually spend three or four nights here, with plenty of time to lose yourself among Venice’s greeny-blue canals, marble palaces and sunlit squares. On one-week cruises, you'll follow the river 130 miles past green hillside vineyards in the Douro River Valley, a UNESCO-recognized destination, before turning around at the Spanish border. The river cruises typically include a visit to the university town of Salamanca in northern Spain. Viticulture is very much the lesson en route, as you learn about port production on the "River of Gold." On the Belmond Napoleon, guests cruise the River Saône past châteaux, rural river towns, and expansive vineyards.
Sure, you can catch sight of the Eiffel Tower when boarding a river ship in Paris, but you can do that while staying in a hotel, too. The real attractions of a Seine River cruise are sailing on the river outside the city toward the English Channel and a visit to the beaches in Normandy for a perspective on World War II. The main rivers in Europe are the Danube and the Rhine and their tributaries.
Paris river cruises of the Seine are best for small group journeys and intimate gatherings. This ultimate itinerary bisects Europe to take passengers from Amsterdam to Bucharest, via sections of the Rhine, Main and Danube among other European rivers. Although only a relatively short stretch of the Thames is open for river cruising, there is so much to see you’ll feel like you’ve traveled much further. There are plenty of options for how much time and money you will spend on the Danube River cruise, whether through barge cruises, yacht cruise lines, or smaller river vessels. Some cruises last for an hour, with some cruises lasting all evening with dinner and champagne. You’ll be treated to views of sweeping architecture and scenery, optional day excursions to famous heritage sites, and traverse the confluence of another renowned waterway, the Elbe River, en route.
